ARQ Winter Assembly | AI & PTSD – Opportunities and Challenges

Thursday 29 january 2026 | 16:30 - 18:30

A free knowledge-sharing event that strengthens connection, collaboration, and development within mental health care. The theme of this assembly is: AI & PTSD – Opportunities and Challenges.

During this fourth ARQ Referaat, we will explore how AI can strengthen care, identify where the real opportunities lie, and determine the conditions needed to apply innovation responsibly and in a human-centered way.

An inspiring look ahead at the future of mental health care, addressing questions from various areas of expertise such as:

  • What happens when artificial intelligence meets the complexity of trauma care?
  • Can AI predict post-traumatic stress disorder before symptoms even appear?
  • Can it support therapy—or even be part of it?
  • And what ethical boundaries must we carefully guard?

Program & Speakers

Can AI predict post-traumatic stress disorder before symptoms even appear? Can it support therapy—or even be part of it? And what ethical boundaries must we carefully guard?

During the program, we’ll build from broad to specific:

  • A look at the general potential of AI in healthcare
  • The use of digital biomarkers to predict PTSD
  • A provocative study on using deepfake technology in the treatment of sexual trauma
  • And finally, a contribution from someone with lived experience

The speakers are:

  • Leo de Penning MSc, Senior Researcher AI at ARQ
  • Katharina Schultebraucks PhD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Population Health at NYU Langone Health
  • Jackie June ter Heide PhD, Clinical Psychologist and Senior researcher at ARQ

And as is traditional, we conclude the assembly with a fitting cultural component
